Our week in
Swazi!!
This week has
been AWESOME! We were split up into different teams and each day we visited
different ministry opportunities so we could get a feel for things here.
Immediately I felt that this was the place I wanted to be for the second
portion of my trip! I got to visit a hospital, two “care points” where orphans
can get a meal, a “squatter” camp, and a high school. This week has opened my
eyes to some harsh realities here in Swazi.
At the Hospital, I talked
with, and prayed over women who were sick from AIDS and other diseases. Many of
the women were so thin that they literally looked like a skeleton, and Some of the women I sat with have since then
died. The hospital stretched me tremendously, but it was amazing to see their faces light up when I talked to them, and prayed for them. So many of the women couldn’t move, and hadn’t been visited by anyone for a long time. It was great to offer them a bit of love and cheer up their day.
At the care points
I spent time with children as they ate “pop” and beans with their bare hands. I
learned that they walked up to 5 miles each day to come and get a meal for the
day. One of the kids fell asleep in my lap for over and hour. It is amazing to
offer these kids a bit of love that they don’t get from anywhere else.
Living with
60 people has not been easy, and I am learning to give personal things up. I
went about 6 days without a shower, and don’t get much sleep with the noise, but
it is all part of the experience. Despite the smell that is constantly around,
we are all having a good time!
Tomorrow we
get to go to a game park and hike, which will be very neat! I am excited to see
some more of this BEAUTIFUL country! I will be taking pictures to show you all
later. I haven’t gotten a chance to upload any, but hopefully soon!
We will be
returning to our home at Alabanza on Monday! I hope all is well with everyone!
